Maldives Tourism Honourable Minister Ali Waheed has been designated to the the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) Global Tourism Crisis Committee.
The committee was formed during “The Global Tourism Coordination Virtual Meeting” held by the UNWTO on 19th March 2020,to analyse and evaluate the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on Tourism sector. The UNWTO-led Committee will hold regular virtual meetings, which will focus on compiling a recovery plan with efficient action the private and public sectors, governments, international financing institutions and the United Nations.
Maldives has been playing an important role in the UNWTO as the chair of the South Asian Region for 2020 and 2021.
Tourism is one of the hardest hit industries amid the Covid-19 pandemic and this committee will launch a global guide for recovery on combating the negative repercussions on tourism.
