The Maldives records over 5000 tourists arrivals from around the world, within the first month of reopening its international borders.
According to Maldives immigration, from 15th July to 15th August, a total of 5,177 tourists visited the Maldives. From this number 3476 tourists arrived in August, showing a steady rise in tourist arrival from 1769 arrivals in July 2020. Tourist arrival also has a daily average of visitors at above 200 in the first half of August.
Britain and the United Arab Emirates have the highest tourist arrival within the same period with 679 and 647 tourist arrivals, respectively. The United States comes in third with 525 tourists arrivals.
The positive development of arrival numbers reflects strong demand seen by travel agents and tour operators in several source markets. To strengthen the demand the Maldivian promotion board MMPRC has been hosting a series of webinars targeting travel agents from different countries to inform them of Maldivian safe tourism protocols ensuring easy access to the country.
