The Russian leisure airline, Nordwind will commence two direct flights between Moscow and Maldives, starting from 27th October 2020. The Boeing 777-300 aircraft flights scheduled to operate every Tuesdays and Fridays to Velana International Airport from Sheremetyevo Alexander S. Pushkin International Airport. 

The Russian Aeroflot airlines have been operating 2 weekly flights from 11th September 2020 and have announced plans to increase the frequency of flights from 2 to up to 4 times a week. Thus with the additional flights of Nordwind airline, the tourist arrivals from Russia is expected to increase. 

Russia has been a strong market for the Maldives and ranked as the fourth-highest arrival market to the Maldives in early 2020. It recorded a 29.6% increase of arrivals, at the beginning of 2020, compared to January of 2019. After the reopening of the international border Russian Market is currently ranked among the top 10 countries in terms of arrivals in the Maldives. 

Established in 2008 and headquartered in Moscow, Nordwind Airlines started by operating 3 aircraft to 6 destinations. Currently, it is in the TOP-10 Russian airlines in terms of passenger turnover. The airline operates service between the airports in Russia and holiday destinations around the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean. At moment it serves 98 destinations in 28 countries including 9 countries and 23 cities in Europe, 8 countries, and 12 cities in the Middle East and Africa, 4 countries and 4 cities in South America, and 6 countries and 14 cities in Asia.
