During a press meeting held via Zoom, attended by the Minister of Tourism Honorable Dr Abdulla Mausoom and the Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, it was announced the Maldives has accepted the invitation to be in the event extended by the United Arab Emirates, and signed a participatory contract.
Expo 2020 is a World Expo to be hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, originally scheduled from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the new dates are from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.
This is to be the 4th time participating in the event for the Maldives, which is held every 5 years. Expo 2020 Dubai plans to welcome representatives from 192 countries, as well as businesses, multilateral organisations and educational establishments, to connect and collaborate under its platform.
Each day of the 173 days of Expo 2020 Dubai is filled with new experiences that showcase the best the world has to offer. Flavours, cutting-edge technology, arts and culture – spread across 438 hectares (1,083 acres) of the most innovative landscapes never seen before.
Expo 2020 Dubai aspires to deliver one of the most sustainable World Expos as well. From recycling to promoting natural solutions that are as intricate as they are innovative. This supports not only their Sustainability subtheme, but also the Dubai Plan 2021, the UAE Vision 2021 and the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Sustainability is being integrated into all aspects of Expo 2020, while also creates a meaningful impact beyond the six months of Expo and inspiring millions of visitors and followers to reaffirm their commitment to the environment.
