Visit Maldives has participated in a session conducted by Questex Travel, USA to highlight travel and promote the destination to the USA travel trade.
The dedicated session for the Maldives was called “pivoting back to travel” which was held on 15 December 2020. The event allowed Visit Maldives to meet and connect with industry experts and peers to exchange knowledge, as well as gain information on the USA travel market and target audience. The latest information on the destination was shared with promoting the brand and product in a video session. The Maldives dedicated session included a speaking opportunity and a live Q&A session to interact with the audience. This session was attended by an experienced cast of trade professionals.
The Maldives was promoted as a safe travel destination, especially during the ongoing pandemic, due to the unique geographical structure of the country. The archipelago allows less spreading of COVID-19 as it helps isolate communities between islands.
The Managing Director of Visit Maldives, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed, interacted with the audience through a video message. In his message, he highlighted the safety measures that are put in place across the country for the safety of tourists and staff working in the tourism industry, to ensure that tourists have an enjoyable vacation in the Maldives. Moreover, he stressed the opening of the Maldives border for all international tourists with a 30-days on arrival free visa given to all tourists and the introduction of a split-stay to encourage tourists to stay for a longer period of time.
The Maldives has remained a popular tourist destination for the USA. A total of 16,754 tourists have arrived by the end of November, since the Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020. This makes the USA the fourth largest tourist arrival market for the Maldives.
