The national airline, Maldivian witnesses a drastic increase in online bookings by 87% after discount offers.
Offers are a 10% discount granted to customers that book their tickets online 7 days prior to the date booked for travel. These apply to domestic flights, for bookings made between 15 December 2020 to 31 January 2021.
According to Moosa Waseem, the Manager of Public Relations & Communications at Maldivian, the surge in bookings have led the airline to increase domestic flights available to customers. After a halt in flight operations due to the pandemic, Maldivian resumed flights from 1 July 2020 in the Maldives.
Passengers are advised to take precautionary measures in accordance with the guidelines by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and island councils. Under the HPA regulation, if traveling to inhabited islands, resorts, and those in the health and education sector and who work at government shelter facilities have to observe a 10 days quarantine period. They will be released with a PCR negative result. However, PCR negative results will not be required before traveling to other islands to provide essential services.
Maldivian also continued to operate repatriation flights for Maldivians stranded abroad due to the pandemic.
