Visit Maldives has partnered with TripAdvisor to launch a campaign to promote the Maldives with the concept “Escape To Maldives: Calm Awaits”.
Set to run from January to September 2021, the campaign will target Europe, US and the APAC region, which will bring the Maldives to the attention of the largest travel community in the world. During the current pandemic, the borders of the majority of European countries remain closed, thus the campaign aims to encourage and promote the Maldives to potential travelers to visit once restrictions have been lifted.
Sarah Mathews, Group Head of Destination Marketing APAC at TripAdvisor, said, “We are very excited to be kicking off 2021 with Maldives Tourism. The Escape to Maldives: Calm Awaits campaign is a content series in partnership with TripAdvisor that looks to inspire travelers to take their dream trip, sit back and enjoy the beauty of Maldives. Our site data and insights have shown that travelers are searching for destinations where they can unwind and relax. We’ve also seen that beach holidays with outdoor activities have remained a key choice for many travelers. With over 1000 islands across the Indian Ocean, we’ll be sharing ideas and guidance on how to find the calm we’ve all been looking for, that you can now find in Maldives.”
With the use of appealing content and attractive visuals of the stunning destination, the promotions aim to contribute in increasing the number of arrivals to the Maldives. For the new year, Visit Maldives continues to launch numerous effective marketing campaigns to promote the country with new strategies and objectives. Many joint marketing activities are expected to be launched with tour operators and airlines, familiarization trips and participation in travel trade fairs to promote the destination.
By the end of 2020, the Maldives achieved a total of 500,000 tourist arrivals amidst the ongoing pandemic. The Maldives Border Miles program was launched as well, which allows members to earn points by travelling to Maldives from 1st January 2021 onwards. Members of the program will earn points based on the duration of stay, celebrations of special occasions, visits on local occasions of Maldives, frequency of visits, and other aspects. This program is the first of its kind loyalty program in the world and will further aid in the marketing efforts of the destination, as well as increase tourist arrivals.
