The number of tourist arrivals to Maldives so far in 2021 have surpassed over 500,000 travellers. The Ministry of Tourism announced the news via a tweet congratulating the industries, volunteers and the Maldivian people for helping achieve this wonderful milestone during this challenging period.
Russia is currently the top source market to the Maldives with 120,514 tourist arrivals as of June 23, 2021. India follows second with 89,599 arrivals whereas Germany stands at third with 27,151 tourist arrivals. Other markets in the top 10 markets for the Maldivian tourism industry are Ukraine, USA, Kazakhstan, United Kingdom, Romania, France and Czech Republic, respectively.
The Maldives is currently open to all travelers outside of South Asia. While tourists are not required to quarantine or test on arrival, they are required to complete an online health declaration form within 24 prior to departure and produce a negative PCR test conducted at least 96 hours prior to their departure.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is working diligently to strengthen brand presence and promote Maldives as the top of the mind destination across the world. Our goal is to sustain and enhance the destination’s idyllic image and the Maldives position as one of the most desired destinations in the world.
Similarly, the key objective is to reassure travelers that Maldives remains one of the safest destinations to travel to during these unprecedented times. The campaigns conducted since the onset of the pandemic presented the Maldives as a ‘safe haven’ for holidaymakers.
The safety and natural isolation offered to holiday makers due to the country’s unique geography and the unique one-island-one-resort concept, and the stringent health and safety measures in place have been the key themes in all our marketing communications during the period.
In addition, Visit Maldives together with the Ministry of Tourism launched the “I’m Vaccinated” campaign in order to share a positive message regarding the vaccination of staff working in the tourism sector as well as promoting the initiatives undertaken to ensure the Maldives remains one of the safest destinations in the world for travelers.
The ultimate target is to make Maldives the destination with the first fully vaccinated tourism sector in the world. As of 23rd June 2021, 96% of resort employees have received the first dose of the vaccine while 70% of the resort employees are fully vaccinated.
With a decline in the global number of COVID-19 cases, easing of travel restrictions and the commencement of mass vaccination campaigns worldwide, there is hope that the Maldives will welcome over a million travelers to the Maldives in 2021.
Tourist arrivals to #Maldives this year surpass half a million mark. Congratulations to industry partners and employees, health teams, related authorities, agencies, volunteers and caring people of Maldives. Thanks to all the lovely tourists.#TogetherWeCan
