According to the latest statistics by the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 210,184 tourists arrived by 17th February 2022. This is a 44.9% increment in comparison with the same period last year. The arrival numbers are not too far compared to pre-pandemic levels.
The statistics go on to indicate that tourists are staying in the Maldives for an average of nine days this promising year, with daily arrivals being maintained at an average of 78,420.
Russia has been contributing the greatest number of arrivals to the Maldives so far, 33,191 arrivals having been recorded from the country between January 1 – February 16. The country boasts 165.8 percent of the arrival count. Following at Russia’s tail is the United Kingdom with 24,010 visitors contributing 11.4 percent. India ranks third following Germany, Italy, France, United States, Ukraine, Austria, and Switzerland respectively.
The number of tourist beds brought into operation has increased in February as guesthouses and hotels have begun operation of 356 beds. The guesthouses alone contribute 12,912 tourist beds as of February 16th. Resorts remain at the top with 38,822 tourist beds.
35 International carriers currently operate in the Maldives. Among which includes Qatar Airways, British Airways, Etihad Airways, Air France, Gulf Air, Emirates, Sri Lankan Airlines, and Turkish Airlines.
To date, around 68.8% of the population has been fully vaccinated. The statistics further show that 40% of resort employees have received booster doses and 97.5% of employees are fully vaccinated.
The Maldivian Government Maldives aims to achieve over 1.6 million tourists in the Golden Year of Tourism 2022.
