Male’, Maldives, 11th July 2022 – Velana International Airport (VIA) reported record-breaking domestic traffic on Thursday, 7th July. With over 3300 passengers traveling to different islands in the Maldives, and 125 aircraft movements, this was the highest passenger flow VIA has witnessed in one day.
Domestic flights are currently operated by Maldivian, FlyMe and Manta Air. The airport celebrated the news on its social media:

The spike in number of flights and passengers coincided with the Eid holidays. With Eid al-Adha taking place during school holidays, it was the perfect opportunity for families and groups to travel, resulting in increased domestic traffic.
