Male’ Maldives, 04th January 2023 – According to tourism ministry statistics, the highest number of tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first two days of this year is from Italy. Italy had the fifth highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives in 2022. According to the Ministry of Tourism, 11,112 tourists visited the Maldives in the first two days of the year. These include 4,625 tourists who arrived in the Maldives on 1st of January and 6,487 tourists who arrived in the Maldives on 2nd of January.

This is also higher than these two days of the last two years. A total of 6,165 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first two days of 2021. According to tourism ministry data, 10,250 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first two days of 2022. At the end of the first two days of this year, Italy was at the top of the list after overtaking India and Russia, the country’s leading tourism destinations in 2022.

According to statistics, 2,343 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Italy. Russia is second in the standings, total of 1,784 tourists arrived in the Maldives. India is ranked third with 753 tourists arriving from the Maldives.

At the end of 2022, 1.6 million, 75 thousand and 294 hundred (1,675,294) tourists visited the Maldives. This is the higher than the H.E. President of the Maldives’ target of bringing tourists to the Maldives. The government has set a target of attracting 1.8 million tourists to the Maldives by the end of 2023.

This year, the government aims to create a record for tourism in the Maldives by bringing in 1.8 million tourists. The highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives is so far is a total of 1.7 million tourists arrived in the Maldives in 2019.
