Since its inception in 1981, the Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards program has been the only global initiative focusing exclusively on restaurant wine service. The awards are presented at three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence, and the Grand Award. This year, there are 2,150 winners for the Award of Excellence, 1,531 for the Best of Award of Excellence, and 96 for the Grand Award.
