Male’, Maldives, 19 August 2024 –The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has joined forces with Fliggy, China’s premier online travel platform under the Alibaba Group, to enhance the Maldives’ visibility and appeal in the Chinese market. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was officially signed by MMPRC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, and Fliggy’s Vice President, Mr. Tong Teng, during a ceremony at Villa Nautica on August 18, 2024.

This collaboration marks a significant step in promoting the Maldives as a top travel destination for Chinese tourists. The agreement, also supported by Villa Resorts, aims to bolster the Maldives’ presence in China and sustain its position as a leading choice for travelers seeking the idyllic experiences of the Sunny Side of Life.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Fliggy for their partnership and to all our stakeholders here for their support. I have no doubt that our combined efforts will lead to another successful year for the Maldives Tourism Industry,” stated Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and MD of MMPRC.

Fliggy stands out as one of China’s top online travel platforms, and this partnership is expected to significantly enhance the Maldives’ market visibility. The alliance will not only promote the destination but also highlight various tourism segments to attract more Chinese travelers.

The signing ceremony at Villa Nautica also emphasized the Maldives’ attractiveness for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travel, events, and conferences. “We deeply value the strong relationship between our two countries and appreciate the love the Chinese people have for the Maldives,” said Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal. “This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to build on that connection.”
