Last Wednesday(July 29), the high commission of Maldives has conducted a webinar targeting the Indian travel market.

The webinar was organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Maldives in Thiruvananthapuram, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation and Health Protection Agency of Maldives. It aims to raise awareness about the measures being taken to ensure the safety of tourists in the Maldives, following the reopening of international borders in the Maldives. 

Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of Maldives said “The webinar was held to raise awareness about the measures being taken to ensure the safety of tourists in the Maldives, following the opening up of the borders and tourism industry on 15 July 2020,”

Officials from MMPRC, MACL, tourism ministry, and HPA made remarks and presentations, focusing on the various safety and precautionary measures taken against the current pandemic.

According to the statement, 181 outbound tour operators across India and prominent media from India participated in the webinar. It further stated, “The interest shown by the participants indicated the interests that exist among Indian tourists towards the Maldives, and keenness of Indian travelers to visit the Maldives once borders reopen in India”

The Maldives is one of the most preferred destinations for Indian travelers. Last year, India was the second-largest source market in tourism for the Maldives, with arrivals recorded growth of 83.5% in 2019, to reach 166,015 from 90,474 in 2018.
