The Maldives has won the prestigious Dream Dive Destination award at the Dive and Travel Awards, hosted by the Marine Diving Fair, for the 12th consecutive year.

The Marine Diving Fair is an annual scuba diving and beach resorts fair which serves as a platform that caters to a large number of scuba divers and marine enthusiasts. The event is held in Tokyo, Japan.

Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), stated, “It has been noted that the diving segment of Maldives attracts the most visitors from Japan, Thereby, Marine Diving Fair opens a great opportunity for reaching travelers focusing in the diving segment. The Marine Diving Fair has been a great platform to strengthen the market presence of the Maldives in Japan and Southeast Asia region.”

The Maldives official tourism promotion body, MMPRC has been conducting several marketing activities in Japan as well as other global markets, in a bid to capitalize on online and digital advertising opportunities. Recent main events include ‘Visitmaldives Later’ campaign on social media platforms, and ‘Maldives: The Sun Will Shine Again’ Facebook live event. The promotional board is also hosting a series of webinars launched in the ‘Rediscover Maldives’ campaign, to inform global travel agents and tour operators about the new norms in traveling to the Maldives and to showcase the experiences that guests can enjoy in the country. The webinar series focuses on the different markets including Japan, the Southeast Asia region, and other major markets to the Maldives.

The Japanese market is ranked 10th among the source markets to Maldives tourism. In the first two months of 2020, the market recorded a 2.4% growth compared to 2019, with 4,052 tourists visiting the Maldives. In 2019, 44,251 tourists visited from Japan, recording a year-over-year growth of 4.6%. With the continued positive growth in arrivals from the market, Maldives is hopeful and welcoming back tourists and ensures the safety of all tourists.
