Villa Air, Flyme has announced its first commercial international flight operation to Srilanka.
The airline was launched into the international platform on Friday (September 4) by Flyme charter flight VP8910 lifted off with 100% Maldivian crew from Velana International Airport to Bandaranaike International Airpot, Srilanka at 1317 hours Maldives time.
According to a statement, the privately-owned airline has been working on plans to go international since early 2019 and has successfully completed the rigorous certification process required by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority to obtain a variation that allows Flyme to operate international flights with its Maldivian Air Operator Certificate. The airline will continue to work towards starting scheduled flights to Ratmalana Airport in Srilanka once its borders are reopened and also be working towards starting scheduled operations to India soon.
Villa Air started the first operation of its airline brand Flyme in October 2011 with two ATR 42-500 aircraft. Over the years the company has gained wealth and knowledge and experience in the aviation industry operating ATR and a brief stint of seaplane using a Cessna Caravan aircraft. The company currently has a fleet of four ATR aircraft consisting of one 72 seat ATR 72-600 two 68 seat ATR 72-500 and one 48 seat ATR 42-500.
