On 13 April 2021, Island Aviation Service Ltd has celebrated 21 years of service in The Maldives. 

Island Aviation Service Ltd is wholly owned by the Government of Maldives. It was established in 2000, to provide the highest possible levels of service to its principal airlines and passengers by use of automation, modernization and with a trained and motivated team of staff that form an integral part of the business. The company aims to consistently exceed the goals of the air traveler and partners by making it a pleasure to use the services of Island Aviation.

Island Aviation’s brand, Maldivian, is the national airline of the Maldives. Maldivian operates a fleet comprising of 1 Airbus A321 (6 business class, 194 economy class seats), 1 Airbus A320 (14 business class, 138 economy class  seats), 2 Dash8-200 series (37 seats), 8 Dash8-300 series (50 seats) and 11 DHC-6 Twin Otter aircrafts (seaplanes- 15 seats) on connecting the country’s Capital city Male’ (from Velana International Airport) to Hoarafushi Airport (Haa Alifu), Hanimaadhoo International Airport (Haa Dhaalu Atoll), Kulhuduffushi Airport (Haa Dhaalu Atoll), Funadhoo Airport (Shaviyani Atoll), Maafaru International Airport (Noonu Atoll), Ifuru Airport (Raa Atoll), Dharavandhoo Airport (Baa Atoll), Kudahuvadhoo Airport (Dhaalu Atoll), Thimarafushi Airport (Thaa Atoll), Koodoo Airport (Gaafu Alifu Atoll), Kaadedhdhoo Airport (Gaaf Dhaalu Atoll), Maavarulu Airport (Gaaf Dhaalu Atoll), Kadhdhoo Airport (Laamu Atoll), Fuvahmulak Airport (Gnaviyani Atoll) and Gan International Airport (Addu Atoll). The airline also flies daily to Thiruvananthapuram, India.

With the addition of the airbus A320 to the Maldivian fleet, the national airline has spread its wings to Chennai India & Dhaka Bangladesh in 2012. In 2015, Bangkok was added to the network. To cater to the demands of the tourism industry, Maldivian operates to several cities in China. They are Chongqing, Chengdu, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Xi’an. Hangzhou was added to the operations in mid September.

In addition to scheduled commercial flights the airline also operate charter flights, special medical evacuation flights and freighter flights on a request basis. The scheduled flights are also able to cater to some of the medical evacuation cases
