World Environment Day was first established and celebrated in 1972 – it was a day that people got together to do something in return for mother nature and the planet. Now it is celebrated in more than 100 countries globally.

On 5th June 2021, Crown & Champa Resorts joined in the festivities and celebrated World Environment Day. The leading resort collection aims to raise awareness and educate its associates, guests and partners in building habits that would help the natural surroundings. Crown & Champa Resorts celebrated with a number of planet-conscious activities.

The theme for World Environment Day 2021 is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ – focusing on resetting our relationship with nature. The theme has been an ongoing practice for the resorts under the collection.

Environmental Awareness

Meeru Island Resort & Spa: In Collaboration with Euro Divers Maldives, this family-friendly paradise is focusing on educating guests about green issues, the benefits of being sustainably conscious and the importance of protecting the world’s natural resources.

Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa: Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa is opening up the oppoturnity for guests to join their eco-conscious excursions where they can experience ecologically considerate marine life encounters. In addition to the island clean up event, the adventure’s island paradise is also showcasing video materials in the reception area to provide information on the do’s and don’ts when on the island and in the sea.

Marine Life Protection

Kudadoo Maldives Private Island and Hurawalhi Island Resort continues to work closely with the UK based, Manta Trust – which is a non-profit organization with a mission to advance the conservation of manta rays and their habitats. The resident marine biologist of the resort takes the guests on a trip to learn about the conservation project, the manta ray ecology and most importantly how to safely interact with the majestic creatures.

Beach and Island Clean Up

At Komandoo Maldives and the top rated resort Kuredu Island Resort & Spa, guests are encouraged to visit Providers Maldives Dive Center to receive educational lessons about the Olive Ridley Project. The project was established to protect sea turtles in the Indian Ocean through research, education and rehabilitation. Both team members and guests come together for a fun beach and island clean up drive!

Innahura Maldives: Home to a variety of organic spices, herbs, fruits and vegetables produce – the laid back paradise of Innahura is set to have the guests gather up for a beach cleanup activity.

Gardening and Planting

Kagi Maldives Spa Island: The resort is geared up to carry out a tree planting event with both the guests and staff members. Planting more trees around the island helps to eliminate erosion and emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

Veligandu Island Resort & Spa: In partnership with Ocean Group Madives, Veligandu Island Resort & Spa is ready to with their guests and team members to start a coral planting initiative. The participants will go on the hunt for broken coral pieces from the island house reef, which later on will be carefully attached onto ‘coral frames’. The frames help the coral fragments to grow and prosper, which will help to provide new homes for the growing marine life in Veligandu’s Lagoon.
