18th December 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of Qatar Airways flying to the Maldives. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) celebrated this day by welcoming the day’s first Qatar Airways flight with a water salute and traditional Bodu Beru drumming.

Minister Mausoom attended a special function held by MACL to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Qatar Airways flights to Maldives Velana International Airport. Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom congratulated the Qatar team and thanked them for their contribution to the Maldives Tourism. Tourism minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom joined the cate cutting ceremony along with Ibrahim thoha, the in-charge of MACL.

Qatar airline played a vital role in kick-starting tourism in Maldives post-pandemic. Qatar Airways was the first airline to resume flights to the Maldives despite the pandemic.

Qatar Airways is the national airline of the State of Qatar and one of the aviation industry’s big success stories. Operations began in 1994 when the airline was a small regional carrier serving a handful of routes. The airline was re-launched in 1997 under the mandate of His Highness The Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who outlined a vision to turn Qatar Airways into a leading international airline with the highest standards of service and excellence. Qatar Airways has since become one of the fastest-growing carriers in the history of aviation with unprecedented expansion averaging double digit growth year on year.
