On 27th December, the Ministry of Tourism has confirmed a new record number of tourist arrivals noted on the same day. With the arrival of 7098 tourist arrivals recorded on 26th December, this is the third time the record has been changed during the month of December. The highest number previously recorded was recorded on 18th December 2021 with 6955 tourists.
From January till December 18th, Maldives has recorded a total of 1,249,713 tourist arrivals. India remains the top source market making up 22.5% of total arrivals this year.
The global tourism industry has faced its fair share of setbacks due to the ongoing pandemic. However, Maldivian tourism has been thriving since the borders opened. The Maldives was awarded World’s Leading Destination title at the World Travel Awards held virtually on December 16th. This is the second time the Maldives won the World’s Leading Destination in a row. The Maldives managed to secure the title last year during one of the most challenging periods faced by the tourism industry.
