It is of special significance for all who work in the tourism industry, as these prestigious awards have been won, during this festive year in which Maldives is celebrating the 50-year Golden Jubilee of Tourism. Deemed the Oscars of the global tourism sector, the World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to recognise, reward, and celebrate distinguished destinations across all key sectors and segments of the travel trade, tourism, and hospitality industries. The World Travel Awards brand is recognised globally as the benchmark of industry excellence.

In addition to those awards we have won, Maldives has also been nominated for several prestigious titles in the 29th WTA’s ‘World’s Leading Category’ – which includes the World’s Leading Destination along with the World’s Leading Island Destination, and World’s Most Romantic Destination titles. The Maldives won the World’s Leading Destination award the last two years; this is the third year in a row in which Maldives has been nominated for the title. The Maldives winning the title of World’s Leading Destination again this year is something that we as a nation can be proud of, as this would be the first time our country would win such a prestigious tourism title for three consecutive years. In addition to this, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has been nominated for the title of the World’s Leading Tourist Board.
