Male’ Maldives, 27th September 2023  – The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is delighted to announce the return of Gibbs Kuguru, a renowned Kenyan shark scientist and National Geographic Explorer. Scheduled from October 1 to October 5, 2023, his upcoming residency promises a captivating fusion of shark conservation research, educational initiatives, and unforgettable guest experiences. Kuguru’s stay is part of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands’ ‘Visiting Heroes’ program, which prioritizes environmental education and sustainability.

Throughout his visit, guests will have the exceptional opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, ranging from exhilarating shark snorkeling expeditions to interactive Q&A sessions with Kuguru himself. On Monday, October 2, Kuguru’s residency will commence with a Shark Presentation during an afternoon tea at La Locanda. During this presentation, he will share insights from his research, providing guests with a glimpse into the captivating world of these extraordinary creatures.

The excitement continues on October 3rd, where guests can partake in a shark snorkeling adventure, followed by a relaxed cocktail hour at Beach Shack. The following day, Kuguru will journey to the nearby island of Gaafaru to connect with and educate young students about marine life, sharks, and wildlife conservation. The residency culminates with one final snorkeling session just before Kuguru’s departure.

Gibbs Kuguru is renowned for his expertise in researching various shark species, which include Great White Sharks, Hammerheads, and Sand Tigers. His work focuses on illuminating how these creatures adapt and survive in the face of challenges like overfishing and climate change. Kuguru’s efforts align with The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands’ dedication to environmental conservation through its Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment Program. This exclusive program, suitable for both adults and children, offers a range of activities aimed at preserving the planet.
