Male’, Maldives, 24th January 2024 – The Maldives has experienced a notable uptick in tourism during the first three weeks of the year, with 128,548 tourists visiting the island nation — an 11.6% increase compared to the same period last year, as per the latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.
In the corresponding period of the previous year, the Maldives welcomed 115,187 tourists.The growth in tourist numbers is attributed to the diverse range of countries contributing to the influx. Russia leads with 14,495 tourists, closely followed by Italy with 13,965.
The United Kingdom, China, and India also significantly contribute, with 10,689, 10,113, and 9,744 tourists, respectively.
Other countries making up the top ten sources of tourism for the Maldives include Germany, the United States, France, Poland, and Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, an average of 6,121 tourists visit the Maldives daily, typically spending around eight days in the country, enjoying its unique beauty and hospitality.The Maldives boasts a robust infrastructure to support this growing number of tourists, currently home to 176 resorts, 809 guesthouses, 140 safari operations, and 15 hotels.This diverse range of accommodation options caters to various preferences and budgets, making the Maldives an attractive destination for a wide spectrum of travelers.
