Following a recent sustainability audit, the resort showcases its dedication to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sustainable operational practices, as recognized by Green Globe, the leading certification authority in the world.

As the first property within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio in the Maldives to achieve this esteemed accolade, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa celebrates not only its recent 50th anniversary but also its ongoing dedication to environmental and social responsibility. This milestone underscores the resort’s continual efforts to shape a sustainable future for the travel and tourism industry in the Maldives.

Scoring an impressive 86% in a comprehensive sustainability assessment, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa excelled in evaluating its sustainability performance across four major pillars: Sustainable Management, Social and Economic, Cultural Heritage, and Environmental Conservation. This assessment, supported by over 380 compliance indicators, highlights the resort’s robust commitment to sustainability across various facets of its operations

Embodying its commitment to holistic sustainability initiatives, the resort, nestled on the natural island of Furanafushi in North Male Atoll, actively engages guests in preserving its unique environment. Spearheaded by Director of Engineering, Hassan Nafiu, the resort’s team implements a range of comprehensive sustainability initiatives, including pioneering the coral propagation program as part of Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy. Through the ‘Adopt A Coral’ initiative in partnership with Reefscapers, the resort aims to restore reef habitats and produce new coral colonies.

Furthermore, the resort demonstrates responsibility towards energy conservation through initiatives such as the INNCOMM system, which optimizes air conditioning usage in guest accommodations. Additionally, the resort is set to implement a cutting-edge Biogas plant in its waste management system, pioneering sustainable technologies in the hospitality sector.

To address plastic waste, the resort operates an innovative water bottling plant using reverse osmosis technology, eliminating the need for plastic bottles and significantly reducing environmental impact.

In fostering community engagement, the resort partners with K’Huraa school and hosts the ‘Maldivian Journey’ every Friday, showcasing local culture through immersive activities and celebrations.
