Male’, Maldives, 7th March 2024 – Renowned master painter Sassan Behnam-Bakhtiar, celebrated for his innovative and sustainable approach to art, is set to unveil his latest collection titled “Life Energy” at Patina Maldives, Fari Islands. The collection, comprising miniature ‘Living Paintings,’ is the culmination of Behnam-Bakhtiar’s recent residency at the resort’s Fari Art Atelier, where he delved into sustainable creation and a profound connection with nature.

“Life Energy” marks the third major chapter of Pathways, an esteemed event series at Patina Maldives designed to foster personal transformation, inspire creativity, and promote sustainable living. The series aims to introduce guests to new life habits while stimulating growth, rest, and connection. Behnam-Bakhtiar’s collection will be showcased at private gatherings in Doha and London before culminating in an exhibition and art sale at Patina Maldives in July.

The artist’s creative journey has evolved significantly in recent years, merging artistry with sustainability and meditation. Behnam-Bakhtiar’s commitment to the planet is evident in his use of natural pigments sourced primarily from minerals, wood, flowers, and soil, along with sustainably sourced wood and linen for his chassis. His dedication to creating art in harmony with nature sets a precedent for contemporary artists today.

Inspired by the traditional techniques of old masters, Behnam-Bakhtiar’s “Life Energy” series features miniature paintings measuring 20cm x 20cm. These ‘Living Paintings’ are crafted using sustainably sourced materials, including ground shells and corals collected from around the island, showcasing an alternative method for meaningful art creation.

The unveiling of “Life Energy” at Patina Maldives in July will coincide with an exclusive exhibition and art sale, featuring a select panel of speakers from the contemporary art and sustainable development spheres. Fifty percent of the proceeds will be donated to a local marine conservation NGO to support coral restoration efforts and reef protection research.

In addition to the collection, a large-scale, site-specific ‘Living Painting,’ created in Behnam-Bakhtiar’s Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat atelier, will join Patina Maldives’ permanent art collection. This installation adds to a prestigious lineup of artists, including James Turrell, Jose Dávila, and Hiroko Takeda.

Behnam-Bakhtiar’s work is driven by a profound philosophy centered on enhancing the connection with the self and living in harmony with nature. Through his art, he aims to provoke a shift in humanity’s approach to sustainability and progress, advocating for a coexistence between humanity and the natural world.
