Male’, Maldives, 2nd June 2024 – Crown & Champa Resorts (CCR) continues its stride into the luxury hospitality space with the grand opening of Veligandu Maldives Resort Island, nestled in the North Ari Atoll. Conveniently located just 20 minutes by seaplane or 60 minutes by speedboat from Malé International Airport, this newest addition to the CCR portfolio welcomes guests of all ages. Established in 1984 as one of the Maldives’ pioneering resorts, Veligandu has undergone a comprehensive renovation and is slated to reopen its doors to guests in November 2024, offering a total of 100 villas.

Veligandu joins CCR’s esteemed luxury collection alongside Kudadoo Maldives Private Island, Hurawalhi Maldives Island Resort, Kagi Maldives Resort & Spa, and Jawakara Islands Maldives. Unlike many resorts, Veligandu maintains its commitment to natural beauty by seamlessly blending lush vegetation and flora into its surroundings, without artificial island construction.

“Veligandu Maldives Resort Island will be an enchanting escape for guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the island, whilst indulging in world-class hospitality set against the backdrop of traditional Maldivian luxury,” comments Ahmed Shaheen, Chief Commercial Leader of CCR. “Many of our staff have been at Veligandu for several years, and whilst the resort has been closed for over a year for its extensive upgrade, they are already very much looking forward to welcoming guests again.”

The resort offers an array of activities for guests to explore, including snorkeling, diving, and marine life encounters. Guests can embark on snorkeling and diving excursions to encounter sea turtles, manta rays, and eagle rays, with the guidance of an in-house marine biologist who enhances the guest experience while contributing to coral reef conservation efforts.

Veligandu also boasts recreational facilities such as a pickleball court, padel tennis, bicycles, and various water sports activities at the ocean water sports & excursions center. For those seeking relaxation, the overwater Himeyn Spa offers an extensive treatment program and yoga pavilion.

Fathuhulla Ibrahim, General Manager, describes Veligandu as “a natural haven,” offering personalized experiences that create everlasting memories for guests.

The accommodation options at Veligandu include 47 Ocean Pool Villas, 28 Ocean Villas, 10 of which feature private jacuzzis, 16 Jacuzzi Beach Villas, and 9 Beach Villas. Each villa offers a blend of tropical interiors with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable and luxurious stay.

Dining at Veligandu is a culinary journey, with options ranging from Japanese-inspired teppanyaki cuisine at Madivaru Teppanyaki Grill to fine seafood at Raalhu, complemented by ocean vistas. The resort also offers buffet-style dining at Dhonveli restaurant and tapas-style bites at Thundi’s snack menu. Guests can also opt for destination dining for a unique culinary experience.

To celebrate its reopening, Veligandu offers an introductory offer with a 40% discount on all stays booked before August 31, allowing guests to enjoy a villa for two people, inclusive of breakfast, at US $550 per night.
