Male’, Maldives, 02 August 2024 – Malaysia Airlines has proudly resumed its daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to the Maldives. The inaugural flight, MH485, operated by a Boeing 737-800, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) at 10:10 AM with a full capacity of 174 passengers. The four-hour and fifteen-minute flight received a celebratory water salute upon arrival at Velana International Airport (MLE) at 11:25 AM local time. The return flight to Kuala Lumpur departs from MLE at 12:30 PM local time.
This significant milestone marks Malaysia Airlines’ 13th destination in South Asia, underscoring its commitment to expanding its presence in key markets. The new route enhances Malaysia Airlines’ position as a gateway to Asia and beyond, in line with its commercial growth strategy. The airline last operated direct flights to the Maldives in 2017.
In addition to the Maldives, Malaysia Airlines is launching flights to two other new destinations this year: Chiang Mai, Thailand, starting on August 15, and daily flights to Danang, Vietnam, commencing on September 24, 2024.

To celebrate the new route, Malaysia Airlines is offering special promotional fares until August 31, 2024. Travelers can explore the Maldives’ breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and world-class resorts with all-in return fares starting from USD 299 for Economy Class, available for travel until March 30, 2025.
Additional promotional offers include a 10% discount on ancillary bundles such as value bundles, premium bundles, and the MH Traveller’s Trio bundle, which includes a standard seat, 10kg extra baggage, and access to the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge at KLIA.
