The Maldives has recorded an increase in private jet arrivals, as high-class individuals arrived in the country for the holiday season, after the Maldives reopened borders to welcome back guests on 15 July.
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated on Sunday (26 October) that ad hoc flights had landed on the main Velana International Airport in August, increasing by 111 percent, to reach 59 flights from just 28 in July.
In September, the Velana International Airport welcomed 60 ad hoc flights and recorded 126 flights in the first three weeks of October, a 110 percent increase from the previous month.
The holiday season for many travelers is December to April in the Maldives, as many arrive in the archipelago to get away from the winter, enjoying the warm sun, whites sand beaches, and clear blue waters. Thus, many festive activities are arranged by resorts and hotels during this time, to ensure their guests enjoy their stay and leave satisfied.
The Maldives’ economy is already recovering from its inflictions by the global pandemic, by witnessing a steady rise in tourist arrivals since borders reopened. The top tourist source markets include Russia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the United Kingdom to name a few. Recently, the Maldives was also included in Forbes List of 20 Best Places to Travel in 2021, as one of the unique destinations to be visited in 2020.
