The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has imposed tighter restrictions on international travelers arriving at airports and other entry ports, effective 11th January 2022 in an attempt to contain the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
The new guidelines state that all arriving passengers will have to quarantine themselves at home for 7 days. As of right now, only visitors arriving from countries with a greater number of covid cases are subject to undergo compulsory covid tests. However, children under five years of age are exempt from both arrival and post-arrival testing unless they are showing symptoms of Covid-19. In all such cases, those found negative are quarantined at home and if tested positive, they will be sent to an institutional quarantine. 2% of all arrivals are subject to random sampling.
Under the new guideline announced by the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, after completing the 7-day quarantine, travelers will have to take an RT-PCR test on the eighth day of arrival. The results of these tests will be available on the Indian government portal and will be monitored by the government.
