Male’, Maldives, 24th January 2023 – The domestic airport being developed on Gaafu Dhaalu atoll, Faresmaathoda is now 85% completed. The airport is being developed by connecting small forest areas within the Faresmaathoda lagoon and reclaiming 19.9 hectares of land. Development of the airport began in early 2021, and is scheduled to be completed in February 2023.
The project includes a sub-base and subgrade development for a 1,200 meter-runway, apron, fire pad, and fire road, as well as a fire building and airport terminal. According to MTCC, the airport’s runway, apron and taxiway are almost completed. The key feature being the state-of-art heart-shaped terminal. The architecture and style of the terminal is said to reflect a modern character.
