Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has offered rent waiver, discount to COVID-19 impacted Airline & Airport partners as well as Tourism associates at Velana International Airport.
The aim of the offer is to boost the tourism industry of the Maldives, which is heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
A press released by the company stated. “As a foremost airport service provider in the Maldives, our accomplishment has always been the success of our business partners. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) has observed a significant impact from all types of businesses at Velana International Airport (VIA) as there were zero commercial activities due to the flight cancellations,”
The statement added that the MACL took this decision after monitoring and analyzing the effects on partners. Furthermore, the company also stated that rent invoices raised in the aforementioned duration will be adjusted by issuing a credit note to effect this discount.

The discounts on rent come weeks after the MACL offered a range of incentives, including a full waiver of airport charges during the initial stages, to international airlines operating scheduled flights after the reopening of borders.
