Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is taking part in one of the longest-running pan-regional travel shows, the PATA Travel Market (PTM) 2020.

The event has over four decades of experience in connecting qualified international buyers and sellers through pre-matched business appointments. This year in response to the challenges caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the organizer of the fair held it on a new, fully virtual platform. The virtual platform is powered by Dragon Trail Interactive with Leshan Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau as the Platinum Sponsor.

The fair started on 23rd September 2020, in conjunction with Sichuan International Travel Expo, and will conclude on 27th September 2020. Throughout the five day event, MMPRC will be connecting with several qualified buyers through network lounges, interactive games, and giveaways session, receiving beneficial insights on travel recovery through live presentations and panels, which can be incorporated into future marketing strategies, to strengthen the image of the Maldives as a preferred tourist destination.

MMPRC has also participated in the PATA Dream to Travel Festival, held from 22nd June to 17th July 2020, to maintain destination presence in the market. Though the fair MMPRC was able to meet experts in the field and to showcase the Maldivian tourism products to the Asia Pacific region.

The Asia Pacific region has always been an important region for the Maldives in terms of tourist arrivals, as it contributes to the highest tourist arrival to the country. According to the 2019 December statistics, Asia pacific region countries like China, India, Japan, and Australia were positioned in the top 10 markets for the Maldives. In the early period of 2020, some countries maintained their position, and others are expected to grow in the future once the travelling resumes to a normal state.

With the reopening of the international borders on July 15, 2020, both Ministry of Tourism and Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has been taking up the effort to promote the Maldives in various destinations. MMPRC has started a Rediscover Maldives Webinar Series, as apart of its Rediscover Maldives campaign targeted to reconnect with the travel trade and the media of specific markets globally. During the first session, MMPRC initiated “A Dozen Must-do Experiences in the Maldives” campaign which showcases some of the most attainable experiences in the Maldives.
