The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has endorsed the International Maldives Travel Market (IMTM) 2020, giving their support to the first-ever 2020 virtual event, which is set to take place on 16th and 17th of November 2020 (updated on 21st October 2020).

The IMTM 2020 virtual exhibition is set to provide a platform to link international buyers, such as tour operators and travel agents, from around the world with the local accommodation providers (Resorts, Hotels, Guesthouses, Liveaboards, Dive Centers, Local Tour Operators and Travel Agents) of the Maldives, to conduct business. This plays as a part of IMTM’s broader plan to gradually reopen the travel, tourism, and hospitality sector to new markets.

Aiming to be a major contribution to the tourism sector that was adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the travel industry is already at a steady recovery due to the numerous marketing campaigns launched by MMPRC and the tourism ministry of the Maldives. 

MMPRC has commenced many activities targeted at the Indian market to increase tourist arrivals to the Maldives, as India is one of their major tourist markets. The company launched two major campaigns among others and participated in the SATTE GenX virtual exhibition. It consisted of a collaboration with Wedding Sutra and radio station promotions of the Maldives, which was presented as an attractive tourist destination. Other campaigns include a global campaign with CNN, webinar sessions with China, and campaigns with Travel Weekly targeted at UK markets. 

In the Maldives, the tourism sector is the leading provider of employment and countless opportunities. It is a major source of income to employment and one of the economic pillars of the country empowering the development of the community.
