Velana International Airport has been nominated for Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport at World Travel Award 2021. 

World Travel Awards is the most prestigious awards given to leading principle providers of the tourism industry. Established, in 1993, these awards are highly significant in marking the quality and achievements of a tourism provider. World Travel Awards has opened voting for the prestigious World categories of its 2021 programme. Voting is now open and runs until 24th October 2021. The winners will be unveiled at WTA’s Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2021, which will take place in Moscow, Russia on 26th November 2021.

The management of the Velana International Airport has continuously worked hard for the past year in ordered to be nominated to such prestigious award.

In February 2021, the Velana International Airport (VIA) received ‘The Voice of the Customer’ recognition from the Airport Council International (ACI). The certificate represents the relentless efforts of the Velana International Airport in prioritizing the needs of the customer during the unyielding times of the pandemic in 2020. VIA was recognized for collecting customer feedback and attempting to adjust to the expectations, as the previous year provided difficulty in travelling for passengers.

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)  also received the ISAGO, the Safety Audit for Ground Operations by International Air Transport Aviation (IATA). The company was able to meet the requirements of ISAGO certification after an detailed and vigilant audit carried out by IATA in areas of Organization and Management (ORM), Load Control (LOD), Passenger & Baggage Handling (PAB), Aircraft Handling & Loading (HDL), Aircraft ground Movement (AGM), Cargo & Mail Handling (CGM).

In September 2020, The Maldive’s Velana International Airport in the Maldives has also received accreditation under Airports Council International’s (ACI) new Airport Health Accreditation program.

In addition the management has ensured to keep the health and safety measures practice at VIA  in alignment with international best practices ensuring health and safety of the passengers, employees, and other airport stakeholders. Safety has always been the utmost priority building passenger confidence contributing to boost the destination Maldives.
