The Maldives has welcomed the first tourist visitor for the year 2022. A ceremony was held at Velana International Airport to welcome the first tourist visitor, Georgina who arrived in the Maldives via GulfAir. Georgina arrived earlier this morning with her husband, Steve where they presented gifts from several companies. Border Miles Maldives presented Georgina with the Silver Tier of Maldives Border Miles.

Georgina noted that this was her second visit to the Maldives and she and Steve had visited the Maldives around this time last year as well and they plan to spend 11 days at Cinnamon Hakuraa Hura Resort.  

2021 was a remarkable year for the Maldives tourism industry despite the setbacks faced due to the global pandemic. We welcome 2022, the golden year of tourism in the Maldives with a 2 million target goal and we hope to bring in even greater achievements as we proceed. The Ministry of Tourism has introduced homestay tourism and published the homestay guidelines in the gazette on 31st December 2022. Homestay tourism is set to kickstart on the island of Dhiggaru on the 1st of January 2022.
