Male’ Maldives, 29th October 2023  – Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from Irushadiyya School this October. These young and eager students had emerged victorious in a competition for World Environment Day, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology. The competition’s focus was on combating plastic pollution through the art of visual storytelling, aligning with this year’s theme: “Solutions to Plastic Pollution.”

Recognizing the students’ remarkable achievement, Coco Collection generously rewarded the winners from Irushadiyya School in S.Maradhoo with an exclusive stay at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu. During their stay, they had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of wildlife and sustainability initiatives. Additionally, they embarked on a fascinating tour of the Olive Ridley Project Marine Turtle Rescue Centre, where they not only met the turtle patients but also engaged in insightful conversations with the dedicated Olive Ridley Project team. This experience allowed the students to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges marine turtles face and the measures being taken to protect them.

Given the critical role that coral reefs play in our ecosystem, the young visitors were invited to contribute to the Coral Garden during their stay. Under the expert guidance of the resort’s Marine Biologist, Rosalie, these enthusiastic students actively participated in a long-term project involving coral planting in the resort’s reef nursery. This endeavor aims to enhance coral diversity and increase the chances of survival for these vital organisms by attaching naturally damaged coral to man-made frames.

Coco Collection remains committed to nurturing the next generation and looks forward to welcoming more aspiring conservationists from across the Maldives to Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu. Through such initiatives, the resort seeks to educate and inspire the youth about sustainability and environmental conservation, ensuring a brighter future for our planet.
