Male’, Maldives, 27th December 2023 – India has emerged as the leading tourist market to the Maldives, surpassing Russia, which held the top spot until recently.
According to the statistics from Ministry of Tourism, India has contributed a remarkable 205,278 visitors to the Maldives, constituting 11.2% of the total arrivals. This has propelled India to the forefront, edging out Russia, which now occupies the second position with 203,539 tourist arrivals, making up 11.1% of the overall count.
The change in ranking is particularly noteworthy given that India had initially taken the lead in April of this year, marking the first instance with 17,577 arrivals, surpassing Russia’s 16,979 arrivals during the same period.
As 2023 draws to a close, the Maldives is on track to achieve its annual tourist arrival goal of 1.9 million, as set by the previous administration. The current tally stands impressively at 1,834,759 tourist arrivals, underscoring the enduring appeal of the Maldives as a preferred tourist destination.
