Maldives Immigration announced on Wednesday that the Maldives recorded a total of 7628 tourist arrivals in the month of August.

A total of 9,297 tourists have visited the Maldives since its international borders reopening, with the 1,769 tourist arrivals recorded in July and the 7,628 tourist arrivals recorded in August. The highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day was recorded on August 20 with 373 arrivals.

The statistics by the Maldives immigration states that the United Arab Emirates was the biggest source market for tourist arrivals in August with 1,627 arrivals. The United Kingdom with 715 arrivals came in second, followed by 674 arrivals from the United States, 513 arrivals from Spain, and 423 arrivals from Russia, 306 arrivals from Germany, 301 arrivals from France, 252 arrivals from Ukraine, 179 arrivals from Egypt, and 168 arrivals from Brazil.

The Maldives reopened its borders on July 15, 2020, allowing resorts and liveaboard vessels to resume operations.  ‘Spilt stay‘ is also permitted, allow tourists to visit multiple resorts during their stay in the Maldives. The government has recently announced that guesthouse in residential islands outside of greater Male’ region is scheduled to reopen on October 15, 2020. The country has also made it mandatory for all inbound travelers to present a Negative PCR certificate on arrival, which has to be done within a maximum of 72 hours prior to departure to the Maldives.
