Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has met with the British High Commissioner to Maldives H.E. Ms. Caron Rohsler on 13th September 2020. Minister Mausoom has also met Ambassador of China to the Maldives, H.E. Mr. Zhang Lizhong on 14th September 2020.

A tweet by the Ministry of Tourism stated that Minister Mausoom discussed sustainable tourism development initiatives in Maldives and ways to further increase tourist arrivals from the UK with British High Commissioner. Furthermore, discussions with the Chinese ambassador was focused on further enhancing the cooperation in travel and tourism between Maldives and China.

Minister Mausoom has also held discussions with the Japanese ambassador to the Maldives, HE Ms. Keiko Yanai, regarding cooperation on travel and tourism between Maldives and Japan. In addition to that, the Minister also met the High Commissioner of India to Maldives H.E. Sunjay Sudhir.

With the reopening of the international borders on July 15, 2020, both Ministry of Tourism and Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has been taking up the effort to promote the Maldives in various destinations. MMPRC has started a Rediscover Maldives Webinar Series, as apart of its Rediscover Maldives campaign targeted to reconnect with the travel trade and the media of specific markets globally. On Monday (14 September), MMPRC concluded the first 3 sessions of the Rediscover Maldives Webinar Series.

The first session was successfully conducted for the Middle East, European, Asian, and American markets. During the session, MMPRC initiated “A Dozen Must-do Experiences in the Maldives” campaign which showcases some of the most attainable experiences in the Maldives. The second webinar concluded on the 8th of September for the markets of the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and the USA. The third webinar was on 10th September 2020, with over 300 participants, and focused on the markets of Southeast Asia, India, China, Korea, Japan, and Australia.
