Male’, Maldives, 14th January 2024 – In response to the Ministry of Tourism and MMPRC’s strategic focus on the Chinese market, Canareef Resort Maldives has emerged as a front-runner, heralding the beginning of a promising trend. The resort recently played host to a record-breaking group of 151 passengers, showcasing its commitment to unique experiences and aligning with the nation’s endeavors to strengthen ties with the Chinese market.

To facilitate the seamless transfer of this substantial group from Male to Addu Atoll, Canareef took proactive measures, chartering two planes and securing additional seats on scheduled flights. A Team Leader from the Resort’s Management shared, “Initially, we had intended to hire the Airbus A320 to transport the entire group at once; however, due to unavailability, we had to opt for chartering two ATR 72 planes.”

This remarkable achievement not only signifies a significant milestone for Canareef Resort but also paves the way for future collaborations and opportunities. The resort is now focused on enhancing the allure of Addu Atoll as a premier destination for Chinese tourists.

Nestled within the UNESCO biosphere reserve of Addu, Canareef Resort Maldives features 271 beach villas spread across a 4.5 km stretch. Accessible by domestic flight and a 10-minute speedboat ride from Gan Airport, the resort boasts a private picnic island and lays claim to one of the Maldives’ longest beaches. Guests can indulge in the luxury of spacious villas with open-air bathrooms, offering stunning views of the lagoon or the Indian Ocean. As Canareef Resort continues to make strides in catering to the Chinese market, the spotlight on Addu Atoll as a prime destination for Chinese tourists is expected to grow.
