Male’, Maldives, 7th April 2024 – The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives, has successfully concluded preliminary meetings between the tourism industry and stakeholders in Addu City. Hosted by South Palm Maldives and Canareef Resort Maldives on April 4th, the meetings marked the beginning of preparations for the South Region Symposium scheduled later this year. The event, spanning two days, aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to sustainable tourism development in the Southern Maldives, aiming to foster effective partnerships for the region’s tourism sector.

The morning of April 4th saw a dedicated meeting at Gan International Airport, where stakeholders discussed crucial matters related to regional tourism infrastructure and development. Subsequently, the ‘Preliminary Meeting with Addu Stakeholders,’ hosted by South Palm Maldives, provided a platform for local government officials, business leaders, community representatives, and tourism industry professionals to exchange perspectives, share insights, and contribute to shaping the future of tourism in the region.

The meeting commenced with an opening statement by MMPRC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD), Ms. Fathmath Thaufeeq, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in driving tourism growth while preserving the cultural and environmental heritage of the Southern Maldives. Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal highlighted the government’s vision for tourism development in the Southern region, emphasizing strategies to promote sustainable practices benefiting tourists and local communities. President’s Advisor Khaleel outlined the government’s strategic vision for the South region, and Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq discussed financial incentives supporting tourism projects in Addu, demonstrating the government’s commitment to economic growth in the region. Additionally, Maldivian’s Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Iyas, highlighted Island Aviation’s efforts to enhance Southern connectivity and support tourism development.

The stakeholders engaged in an interactive Q&A session, allowing the community to voice concerns, share insights, and propose solutions.

These preliminary meetings signify a significant step towards meaningful discussions, strategic partnerships, and actionable insights that will drive sustainable tourism development in the southern atolls of the Maldives.
