Male’, Maldives, 7th April 2024 – Ms. Fathmath Thaufeeq, the CEO & MD of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), emphasized Addu City’s exceptional tourism potential during the opening remarks of the preliminary meetings held for the South Symposium 2024. Hosted by South Palm Maldives Resort and Canareef Resort Maldives in Addu City on April 4th, these meetings aimed to initiate preparations for the South Region Symposium scheduled later this year.

The meetings, which brought together MMPRC, the Tourism Ministry, and Addu City stakeholders, underscored President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to sustainable tourism development in the Southern Maldives. Ms. Thaufeeq highlighted the importance of fostering productive collaborations between stakeholders and authorities to ensure the long-term growth of Addu City and the region’s tourism industry.

Ms. Thaufeeq also outlined plans for Gan International Airport to serve as a beneficial domestic hub, enabling a greater number of tourists to visit Addu City and nearby atolls, reflecting the government’s comprehensive efforts in tourism development.

In line with MMPRC’s objectives, Ms. Thaufeeq emphasized the promotion of local tourism, aiming to showcase the positive aspects of the Maldives’ tourism industry to international markets. The discussions from the meetings will inform the development of a unique marketing approach focused on promoting local tourism in Addu City, Gaaf Dhaal Atoll, Gaaf Alif Atoll, and Fuvamulah.

Acknowledging tourism as one of the Maldives’ highest income-generating sectors, Ms. Thaufeeq expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their assistance and involvement in boosting tourism and providing advantages to the South of Maldives. The collaborative efforts of industry participants are crucial for the nation’s development and the well-being of its citizens.
