Male’, Maldives, 11th June 2024 – Royal Island, in partnership with the Baa Atoll Council and Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, will spearhead a reef cleaning event at Eydhafushi Island as part of this week’s World Oceans Day celebrations. This initiative, driven by the DiveOceanus dive center at Royal Island, focuses on marine conservation and community engagement within the Baa Atoll region.
The Parley-registered clean-up event will gather dive centers from nearby resorts and local islands. Skilled divers will conduct an underwater clean-up to remove debris from the reef and marine habitats, while students from the Eydhafushi School Environment Club will oversee the beach clean-up and waste sorting, fostering environmental awareness and community involvement.
Over 120 participants, including divers and students, are expected to take part in the clean-up effort on June 7th. Prominent participants include the Eydhafushi Council, Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, Eydhafushi Police, and Eydhafushi School. Parley Maldives will support the event by providing collection bags for efficient waste disposal.
