Male’, Maldives, 16th July 2024 – The Dhiraagu Tekkers Resort Cup 2024 commenced in style with its opening match held at the scenic Crossroads Maldives. This year marks the tournament’s third edition, promising a blend of sportsmanship, skill, and community spirit among the Maldives’ top resort teams.
Sponsored by Dhiraagu, the leading telecommunications provider in the Maldives, the Tekkers Resort Cup has solidified its place in the local sporting calendar. It provides resort staff with a platform to showcase their prowess in a spirited and healthy competition setting.
The opening ceremony, held on July 15, 2024, at Crossroads Maldives in South Kaafu Atoll, featured a charity match that pitted the Ministry of Sports team, led by Minister Abdulla Rafiu, against a star-studded lineup captained by Maldivian football legend Ali Umar. The event also included inspirational speeches from key figures such as Mohamed Nashmee Rasheed, Managing Director of Tekkers, and Mohamed Mirshan Hassan, Director of Brand and Marketing Communications at Dhiraagu.
Over the next two months, the tournament will see more than 50 resort teams from across eight atolls—including South Kaafu, Alif Alif, and Baa—compete fiercely for the coveted Dhiraagu Tekkers Resort Cup South Kaafu Trophy. The competition promises thrilling matches and strategic showdowns, culminating in a grand finale back at Crossroads Maldives.
With a total prize pool of USD 7,500 up for grabs, including USD 5,000 for the champions and USD 2,500 for the runners-up, the Tekkers Resort Cup 2024 aims to elevate futsal within the Maldives’ luxurious tourism sector while fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among its participants.
