Male’, Maldives -21st April 2026 – A renewed celebration of the ocean’s depth and wonder is set to unfold at The Nautilus Maldives as Ocean Discovery Week makes its much-anticipated return from 2 to 8 August 2026. Nestled within the pristine waters of the Baa Atoll, the experience invites travellers into a more meaningful relationship with the sea—one that transcends conventional itineraries and embraces spontaneity, reflection, and discovery.
This year’s edition is elevated by the presence of acclaimed underwater photographer Tobias Friedrich, who will be joined by his wife Isidora Friedrich and their two sons. Together, they bring a rare, family-led perspective shaped by shared passion and deep-rooted respect for marine life. Friedrich, widely recognised for his striking imagery and contributions as a judge for the Underwater Photographer of the Year, will guide guests through the art of underwater storytelling—blending technical insight with a profound appreciation for the ocean’s fragile ecosystems.
Throughout the week, experiences are designed to unfold organically. Guests may find themselves swimming alongside manta rays in the iconic Hanifaru Bay, exploring vibrant house reefs, or venturing into the mesmerising world of night diving. Photography workshops led by Friedrich will cater to all levels, offering both foundational techniques and refined approaches to capturing compelling underwater narratives.
Complementing this, Isidora curates immersive storytelling sessions that weave together exploration, conservation, and safety, while also engaging younger guests through thoughtfully designed activities. Children are welcomed into the journey through hands-on experiences—from coral planting initiatives with marine biologists to creative, ocean-inspired workshops—encouraging a genuine connection with the natural world.
Evenings take on a more contemplative tone, with open-air cinema screenings and intimate discussions revealing the hidden dimensions of marine life. At Naiboli, a dedicated Ocean Gallery will showcase Friedrich’s work, with select pieces available for purchase, contributing in part to ongoing marine conservation efforts.
With just 26 private beach and ocean residences, The Nautilus offers an atmosphere of exclusivity and freedom, where each stay is shaped entirely around personal preference. Supported by dedicated House Masters, guests are invited to craft their own rhythm—whether through bespoke dining, wellness journeys at Solasta Spa, or private excursions across the Indian Ocean.
Ocean Discovery Week is not simply a curated programme—it is an invitation to experience the ocean in its truest form. Through shared moments, artistic expression, and immersive encounters, it leaves an impression that lingers long after the journey ends.
