Male’, Maldives, 24th June 2024 – Four Seasons Resorts Maldives celebrated a proud moment on June 22, 2024, as 49 young Maldivians graduated from its esteemed Hospitality Apprenticeship program. Held at the Maldives National University Auditorium in Male, the ceremony marked a significant milestone for the program, now in its twenty-third year. As the longest-running and most successful hospitality apprenticeship in the Indian Ocean, it has transformed the lives of 858 young individuals since its inception in 2001.

The Honorable Minister of State for Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, His Excellency Ahmed Shafeeu, graced the event as the Chief Guest of Honour. He lauded this year’s graduates from diverse disciplines such as Food & Beverage, Housekeeping & Guest Services, Retail, Front Office, Maritime Transport, Engineering, Diving, and Watersports. The event also saw the welcoming of 73 new apprentices for the class of 2025, chosen from 229 applicants hailing from 34 islands across 15 atolls. These new apprentices are set to embark on an intensive year-long journey that blends rigorous training with a deep immersion in the hospitality traditions of the Four Seasons family. Furthermore, twelve graduates from the class of 2024 will return for additional training in Front Office and Engineering.

Excellence Through Immersive Training

The success of the Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Hospitality Apprenticeship program is rooted not only in its robust syllabus but also in its immersive, hands-on approach to learning. Guided by professionals with extensive international experience in luxury hospitality and the marine industries, the program emphasizes on-the-job training designed to build resilience, character, and a strong sense of professionalism, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

What’s New

The Class of 2024 includes the first two graduates from the newly launched Resort Photography course, a collaboration with Malé-based Digital Studio. As the program continues to evolve, Four Seasons Resorts Maldives has announced a new agreement with French training technology company, 360 Learning. This partnership will enhance the program with digital content creation, an improved student management system, and a more collaborative and experiential approach to learning. The first digital modules are set to roll out later this year.

Additionally, the 2023 Apprenticeship saw the launch of a student exchange program with the Republic of Palau, established between the two island nations in 2022. Seventeen young Maldivians are currently experiencing life in Palau, with another group set to join them soon. Meanwhile, three Palauan apprentices are pursuing their training in the Maldives and will graduate in January 2025.

Unlocking Opportunities for Young Talent

The Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Hospitality Apprenticeship is open to young Maldivians aged 17-20. While no previous work experience is required, applicants must have O-level certifications and be fluent in written and spoken English. Training occurs five days a week, with apprentices living and working onsite at the stunning Four Seasons Resorts Maldives locations of Kuda Huraa and Landaa Giraavaru.

“While enrolled in the program, students acquire a wide range of technical skills and knowledge, developing respect for discipline, accountability, and professionalism, as well as essential life skills. These include the ability to connect with people, speak and act truthfully and responsibly, receive and accept feedback, and deliver on agreements and promises,” commented Mr. Armando Kraenzlin, Regional Vice-President and General Manager at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru.

“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the 49 students of the graduating Class of 2024. You’ve shown ambition, energy, and the motivation to make something of yourself and your talents. To next year’s class, the Class of 2025, we extend a very warm welcome to Four Seasons – and to the Maldives Tourism Industry.”

This celebration of the 2024 graduates highlights the program’s ongoing commitment to empowering young Maldivians, offering them invaluable opportunities to build successful careers in the hospitality industry.
