Maldives Showcases Tourism and Local Enterprise at China-South Asia Expo 2026

Male’, Maldives -11th June 2026 – The Maldives is strengthening its presence in one of Asia’s most influential markets through its participation in the 10th China-South Asia Expo (CSAE) 2026, currently taking place in Kunming, Yunnan Province. Running from 11 to 16 June at the Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event provides a strategic platform for the island nation to promote both its tourism industry and locally produced goods to a broad international audience.

Visit Maldives is attending the expo in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade (MEDTT), with the joint initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s visibility among travellers, trade partners and industry stakeholders from China and across South Asia. The partnership also supports Maldivian businesses in reaching new markets and showcasing the diversity of products and experiences available across the archipelago.

The Maldivian delegation features representatives from MEDTT alongside a range of local exhibitors, including fisheries, tourism, retail and artisanal brands. Their presence reflects a wider effort to position the Maldives not only as a world-renowned holiday destination but also as a source of authentic products and cultural experiences.

At the heart of the exhibition, the Maldives pavilion presents a vibrant display of the destination’s varied tourism offerings. Visitors are introduced to experiences that extend beyond luxury resorts, including boutique accommodations, local island stays, marine excursions and cultural encounters. Through immersive visuals, interactive displays and multilingual promotional materials, the stand highlights the many facets of travel in the Maldives.

Participating businesses contribute to this narrative by showcasing products that embody the country’s heritage and craftsmanship. From premium seafood exports and locally made goods to handcrafted jewellery and unique souvenirs, the exhibitors demonstrate the richness of Maldivian enterprise. Tourism companies are also promoting a variety of travel services and experiences designed to enhance visitors’ journeys throughout the islands.

Beyond consumer engagement, the expo serves as an important networking opportunity. The Maldives pavilion provides a dedicated space for discussions with travel trade professionals, media representatives and regional tourism stakeholders, helping to strengthen partnerships and encourage future collaboration.

As one of the Maldives’ most significant source markets, China continues to play a vital role in the destination’s tourism growth strategy. Participation in CSAE 2026 forms part of Visit Maldives’ ongoing efforts to deepen market engagement, increase destination awareness and attract more visitors from Asia’s rapidly expanding outbound travel sector.

Through a combination of destination promotion and business development, the Maldives is using the expo to reinforce its reputation as a dynamic destination while opening new opportunities for local brands on the international stage.
