Maldivian Diver Shafraz Naeem Sets Two New Underwater Records

Male’, Maldives – 04th February 2026 – Maldivian diver Shafraz Naeem has made history by setting two new entries in the Maldives Book of Records during the pioneering “Across Maldives 2026” expedition. Partnering with Visit Maldives, this initiative redefined the limits of underwater exploration and endurance in the region.

The newly recognized records include:

  • Longest Underwater Distance: Covering an impressive 335 kilometers over two weeks across more than 55 dives.
  • Longest Continuous Dive: Completing a single 16.5-kilometer underwater traverse in over five and a half hours.

These achievements complement Mr. Naeem’s previous 2022 record, the longest continuous open water scuba dive in the Maldives, a 50-hour dive at Anantara Lagoon celebrating 50 years of Maldives tourism, which has also been officially inducted into the Book of Records.

The expedition concluded with a special ceremony on 4 February 2026 at Phase 1 Beach, Hulhumale, where Mr. Naeem was presented with a commemorative coin and certificate by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim and Visit Maldives CEO Ibraheem Shiuree.

Reflecting on his accomplishments, Mr. Naeem shared, “While setting records is rewarding, my true goal is to inspire Maldivians to explore technical diving, embrace challenges, and develop a stronger connection with our oceans. I hope this motivates everyone to appreciate and protect our marine environment.”

Mr. Shiuree added, “Shafraz Naeem’s achievements mark a significant milestone for the Visit Maldives Book of Records. They demonstrate extraordinary skill, highlight the Maldives’ marine identity, and reinforce the nation’s reputation as a premier destination for adventure and marine tourism.”

The expedition was made possible through collaboration with key partners, including State Trading Organization (STO), Ooredoo Maldives, beOnd Airlines, H78 Hulhumale, Ocean Junkies, and Safari (Southern Cross), ensuring seamless logistics and international connectivity.

Across Maldives 2026 not only showcased human endurance but also emphasized environmental awareness, positioning the Maldives as a world-class destination where adventure, sustainability, and marine conservation intersect. Initiatives like this reflect Visit Maldives’ ongoing commitment to promoting the country’s unique marine heritage while inspiring exploration and responsible tourism.
