Sun Siyam Olhuveli Celebrates International Labour Day with Immersive Leadership Experience

Male’, Maldives -3rd May 2026 – Marking International Labour Day on 1st May with a refreshing perspective on workplace culture, Sun Siyam Olhuveli embraced a hands-on leadership initiative that brought senior management closer to the heart of daily resort life. Through a Gemba Walk-inspired approach, leaders stepped away from their usual roles and integrated directly into frontline operations, gaining first-hand insight into the dedication and effort that shape the guest experience.

Rather than observing from a distance, members of the leadership team actively participated across various departments of the resort. The Director of Human Resources joined the bar team, taking on bartending duties while engaging with guests in a lively service environment. The Operations Manager worked alongside the pastry team, experiencing the creativity and precision required in daily culinary preparation. Meanwhile, the General Manager and Director of Operations became part of the kitchen brigade as Chef de Partie, contributing to the fast-paced coordination behind the resort’s dining experiences.

Across the island, other leaders immersed themselves in housekeeping routines, engineering tasks, watersports operations, kitchen support, and security duties. This collective effort transformed the day into a meaningful exchange between leadership and team members, where curiosity and dialogue replaced formality.

Throughout the experience, leaders engaged in open conversations with staff, seeking to understand everyday challenges, operational pressures, and moments where support could enhance efficiency. These honest interactions revealed valuable perspectives that often go unnoticed from managerial offices, strengthening mutual understanding and reinforcing trust across departments.

General Manager Hassan Adil reflected that the initiative was not about evaluation, but about presence and participation. He emphasised that true leadership lies in listening, learning, and standing alongside the people who bring the resort to life each day. The experience served as a reminder that hospitality is driven by human connection and shared commitment.

This initiative also reflects Sun Siyam Olhuveli’s continued dedication to a people-centric philosophy, where growth is shaped through empathy and collaboration. By fostering an environment where every voice is valued, the resort continues to build a culture that supports both personal and professional development.

Located in the scenic South Malé Atoll and spanning three tropical islands, Sun Siyam Olhuveli is just a 45-minute speedboat journey from Velana International Airport. The resort features 481 rooms and villas set across pristine beaches and turquoise lagoons, offering a blend of relaxed island living and vibrant activity. Guests can enjoy 24 dining and bar venues, an SSI-certified dive centre with access to over 50 dive sites, world-class watersports, surfing opportunities, and a dedicated adults-only retreat on Romance Island.
