Baros Maldives Unveils “Fully Ocean” – A Week Dedicated to Marine Conservation and Ocean Discovery

Male’, Maldives -4th May 2026 – Beneath the crystal-clear waters surrounding Baros Maldives lies one of the Maldives’ most remarkable underwater ecosystems — a thriving house reef that has shaped the identity of the iconic island retreat for more than five decades. This June, the resort is inviting guests to experience that world in a far more meaningful way through the launch of “Fully Ocean,” a new sustainability initiative dedicated to marine conservation, education and ocean exploration.

Taking place from 1 to 8 June 2026, the programme aligns with both World Reef Awareness Day and World Oceans Day, transforming environmental stewardship into an immersive guest experience. Rather than observing conservation efforts from afar, visitors will be encouraged to engage directly with the fragile ecosystems that surround the island alongside Baros’ resident marine experts.

Since welcoming its first guests in 1973, Baros has remained deeply connected to the ocean that encircles it. As one of the Maldives’ pioneering resorts and a long-standing advocate for reef restoration, the property has consistently embraced environmentally conscious practices, from coral regeneration initiatives to sustainable operational systems integrated across the island. “Fully Ocean” now brings those behind-the-scenes efforts into the spotlight through a thoughtfully curated series of activities and educational encounters.

The programme begins with guided house reef tours and night snorkelling experiences, introducing guests to the extraordinary marine biodiversity that flourishes beneath the lagoon. Throughout the celebration, participants can join coral restoration workshops led by marine conservationist Carissa Cabrera, gaining insight into Baros’ Coral Cube initiative while contributing directly to reef rehabilitation efforts.

Beyond daytime snorkelling safaris and marine presentations, the experience also delves into the ocean’s lesser-seen wonders. Divers and snorkellers will have opportunities to explore delicate reef micro-life, encounter shallow-water species during low tide excursions and participate in fish identification sessions designed to deepen understanding of the reef’s intricate ecosystem.

One of the most captivating highlights comes after sunset. Special “Glow in the Dark” night snorkelling sessions use UV light to reveal fluorescent marine organisms hidden beneath the surface, offering guests a rare glimpse into the reef’s nocturnal world. Meanwhile, families can enjoy interactive marine-themed games, creative workshops and educational activities designed for all ages.

Environmental awareness remains central throughout the initiative. World Environment Day activities include guided nature walks and a photography competition celebrating the island’s natural beauty, while Turtle Day — organised in collaboration with the Olive Ridley Project — will focus on sea turtle conservation and responsible wildlife interaction.

The experience concludes on World Oceans Day with a collective reef clean-up, encouraging guests to actively contribute to preserving the marine environment they have spent the week discovering.

Running alongside the programme is Baros Maldives’ “Endless Summer” offer, available from May through October 2026 — a season known for calmer waters, quieter shores and exceptional marine encounters, including manta ray and whale shark sightings across nearby atolls.

Just a short speedboat journey from Velana International Airport, Baros Maldives continues to redefine luxury hospitality through experiences rooted in authenticity, environmental consciousness and a profound respect for the ocean. At Baros, conservation is no longer simply a philosophy operating quietly in the background — it has become part of the journey itself.
